The International Guest Mix (IMG.) series is all about collaboration and forging connections. Collaboration I believe is at the very heart of what lies beneath the underground progressive house music scene. Although progressive house seems to be a smaller genre here in the UK this is not the case across South America. Argentina in particular seems to have by far the biggest visible scene with stalwarts like Hernan Cattaneo and the UK's very own Nick Warren flying the flag and entertaining not hundreds but often tens of thousands in outdoor clubs and spaces to the envy of the world. However, Colombia, Mexico & Brazil to name a few have a healthy nu breed of DJs and producers putting out fantastic music constantly. However, just like here in the UK, there are DJs and producers working tirelessly to share the wonderful and varied style that progressive house spans. In Barranquilla Colombia, Ruben Rojano has been the man for many years to unite and push the progressive house scene. Like many of us on the underground scene, Ruben and I met online through the online community 'Super Progressive' brilliantly run by Willy Noglows. Willy has interviewed the cream of the crop from Paul Oakenfold, Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Danny Tenaglia, Sander Klienenberg to Steve Lawler. Ruben and I are supremely lucky enough to share the same experience of doing their 'Backtracks' offshoot podcast series where we discuss our experience and history of our own origins of the music we love. The series aimed squarely from the dance floors and behind the decks. You can catch these interviews by the way on the Super Progressive Podcast series on Apple (Episodes 17 & 21). I reached out to Ruben as a natural next choice to produce IMG.005 the follow-up to the superb IMG.004 from Denver-based U.S producer ORTICAAN, which kick-started the series again earlier this year. Ruben has nailed a perfectly neat and tidy 60-minute mix. It's intelligent, subtly paced with excellent track selection and builds gently gathering energy towards the finale. Massive thanks to Ruben for taking the time out to produce this mix for PHUK. The greatest thing about doing these projects is meeting people with the same burning passion for the music you love.
