Resident 'In The Mix' - Lee Scott 20012021

The beauty of the Resident mixes is that each week you hear someone else's take on electronic music - this week it's Lee Scott. From the off Lee starts with vibrant and crystal clear grooves. Florian Kruse ft Brolin - Navigator (Mate Remix) has an energy shifting bassline that hooks you from the start. Effortlessly, we glide into Med In Mars' chunky groover 'Serum' and the mix is on it's way. As Beija's Asian tinged melodies drift into the amazing 'Sasha Rooms' remix by Brian Laruso you are floating on a cloud that is made all the lighter by Quivver's emotion fuelled voice echoing out. Is there a better combo than Sasha & Quivver? To keep you guessing Lee transitions into Oxia's 'Domino' which acts as a delightful segway for you to catch your breath before Brancaccio & Berry plunge you into 'Oblivion'. As Diazar's pulsing 'Alptraum' rolls in you'd be forgiven for forgetting you have only been listening to 36 mins. That kind of pace changing is what Lee is loved for in his sets. Ben Bohmer's metallic bassline with twinkling melodies only serves to lull you into a false sense of security as Frankyeffe & Seismal's 'Fading Out' comes sweeping in to take the tempo and energy up again. And just wait for Nijra's vocals too! Chelsea Wolfe's The Warden (Maceo Plex Remix) takes the finish line at around the 60-minute mark. Wow. Only one thing to do - press play again and really settle in. Lee Scott ladies and gents.

Lee's Bio: Lee is no stranger to Progressive House UK. He’s one of very few DJ’s to have mixed two Guest Mixes for us and was one of the very first members of the group. We’re delighted to have him on board the resident team.

He’s made of solid stuff too. His music journey started, like many of us older folk, with rave & hardcore. The mighty Carl Cox ‘the 3 deck wizard’ was just as big then as he is today. Slipmatt, Ratpack, Grooverider and Fabio all played records that had a distinctive sound of the early rave era which were hugely addictive and very hard to get hold of especially before the rave scene started to become more popular and divide into sub-genres.

Next came a huge influence in the form of hard-house from the legendary Tony de Vit. De Vit in particular was one of the earliest pioneers of tight, long mixes and despite his more famous faster ‘Trade’ persona, would play a hugely varied chunky sound which he toured up and down the UK clubs with igniting audiences. You can hear that influence in Lee’s mixes if you know what you’re looking for.

Like so many of us, it was the galvanizing and genre uniting duo Sasha & Digweed who most obviously influenced Lee’s progressive style. Producers like Quivver & Laurent Garnier also pricked his ears for production quality and uniqueness.

Today Lee sights artists and producers such as Ivory, Antrim, Coiz, Re. you and Hoj as particular favourites.
Earlier Downtempo influences from artists like Massive Attack and Zero 7 can still be heard in the more gentle areas of Lee’s music.
