This week’s resident mix comes from South American born Francisco Ludueña. Originally from Cordoba, Argentina but now living in the UK, it is no surprise that Francisco’s sound echoes that of his magical homeland. And oh boy, what a sound! From the moment the mix begins with a movie sample from the sci-fi flick ‘Lucy’ you know you’re in for something special. With the bpm set at a chunky sounding 120bpm the tracks fuse together with groove, flow and atmospherics working in perfect harmony. As a style close to my heart all the right producers are lined up like the night sky. Hot Tuneik, GMJ, Sebastien Busto, Kamilo Sanclemente, Ewan Rill – the list goes on. There’s such a deep richness to Francisco’s mix, the energy builds and stirs quietly underneath throughout. It’s that control of energy that really appeals here – all to often Dj’s opt for linear mixes, and although there’s nothing wrong with this approach, it takes great skill to maintain the listener's attention with subtle pace changes, depth of sound and ‘sections’ that draw you deeper and deeper into the mix. Standout tracks for me from a stellar mix - Brook (BR) - Another Dimension (Original Mix) [Stripped Digital], Amine K (Moroko Loko) - Keya (Original Mix) [Akbal Music] & Balad & Jelly For The Babies - Love Song (George X Remix). This is a mix to go back to over and over again. The wind-down to the finale is sumptuous and evokes some real emotions as it glides to a resting halt.
